- The American Choreography Awards ACA
- The American Choreography Awards (ACA) was created in 1994 by a group of committed individuals determined to raise the visibility of the art of choreography for the camera. The ACA Award is now recognized as the highest standard of achievement in choreography throughout the entertainment industry. Our gala evening showcases exciting performances and brings the entire entertainment community together to celebrate. Each year our stage is graced with such celebrities as Carol Burnett, Shirley MacLaine, Quincy Jones, Dick Van Dyke, Chita Rivera, Gregory Hines, Bette Midler, Jenna Elfman, Robert Duvall and Robert DeNiro.
- The Academy of Dance on Film
- The Academy of Dance on Film is the nation's only arts organization dedicated to the preservation, documentation and advancement of filmed dance. Much of the history of world culture, fashion and social changes and the sheer exhilaration of movement has been captured by the camera since its birth. With excellent libraries documenting classical, modern and ethnic dance around the world, it was the goal of the Academy of Dance on Film to preserve and share commercial dance and movement.
To share this unique American cultural art, ADF also focuses on education. To date, various lectures on Dance in Film have been given to "Lifelong Learning" programs, Universities and for young people in the Los Angeles Unified School District. ADF has also begun its "Oral History" videotaping program capturing the story of commercial dance with choreographers such as Bob Sidney and dancers such as Barbara Perry - whose mother operated the legendary Perry's Rehearsal Studios in Hollywood during its "Golden Age." You can e-mail specific requests to ADOF@pacbell.net. Advice on locating videos to rent might be given, or, by appointment, you can come to ADF and see rare dance footage. Please phone: 323-463-7009 or fax:323-463-7906 to schedule on-site appointments.
- The Jazz Dance World Congress
- The Jazz Dance World Congress is an annual five-day event celebrating the uniquely American art form of jazz dance. Held in early August, the Congress gathers dancers, teachers, and performers from across the United States and from as many as 35 foreign countries. At the Congress, these jazz dance enthusiasts take classes from world-class Master Teachers, see performances by internationally-known dance companies, witness the judging of new jazz dance choreography in competition for the prestigious Leo Award, and discuss any topic of interest to jazz dancers, both in formal panel discussions among themselves whenever the crowded schedule allows.
Wherever the Jazz Dance World Congress has been presented, it has involved not only the local dance community, but also the general public who purchase tickets for the professional Jazz Dance Concerts that end each day. Hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses also feel the impact of this major five-day event.
